I have listed a set of 8 Hepplewhite/Sheraton style mahogany dining chairs. The wood is solid. The backs are Hepplewhite style sweetheart shaped. ... more The legs are a square tapered with spade shaped feet. The chairs seats are newly upholstered; never been sat on. I removed the old upholstering and replaced it with this quality designer upholstery fabric. It is a jacquard type fabric I guess. I'm not well educated on fabric types. The floral design is not raised. It is flush. There is a slight sheen to the fabric, but not cheap tacky, and may not be visible in the pictures. For a finished look underneath the seat, I applied a natural colored cotton fabric trimmed in a natural cording that is attached by velcro dots so that you can remove this backing neatly without ripping out anything if you need to get underneath the seat. The seats simply lift out of their frames. They are not screwed into the chairs. If I am not mistaken, this is the way actual antique chairs were made, with the seats just lifting out. The seat frames are a solid secondary wood, not cheap porous particle wood. So, they are a nice reproduction of a very popular style of antique chair. They were purchased in the mid 80's from an auction. They are not antique. They are probably close to the age of when they were purchased in the 80's based on the look of lining in the padding underneath the seats that I saw when I was removing the old upholstering. I really do not know, possibly 60's or 70's. I am calling them vintage. Now, having said all of that, they are in excellent condition without many scratches on them at all. Just surface stuff really. They are not rickety or wobbly or squeaky. The finish is very nice and has retained its luster through the years. There are 2 pics in which I am trying to show small cracks in the wood at the corners of the seats. There are 2 chairs in which this is present. The cracks present are not to say that the chair is falling apart. I cannot even move the wood where these cracks are.
